I hear these cars are very reliable to maintain and are over all good cars. I know they tend to be real big gas guzzlers, but I know I won't be traveling that much. What do you think? Would this be a good option for me? What are the good qualities about it? I'm looking to getting about an '09 model at least. Please don't offer me any other options. Question about gun safety? Every time I take my gun somewhere ( when I'm not shooting) wether it's walking to the gun range, or putting the gun in the backseat of my car, people always freak out at me when I point my gun at them. Why does it matter? I always clean my gun, make sure it has no bullets in it, and put it on safe whenever I'm not shooting, so why does it matter if I accidentally point my gun at someone. I know that not everybody knows my gun isn't loaded, but even the people that I've explained to the percautions i've taken still freak out, and tell me that they will hit me if I point my gun at them again (it was on accident) why do they do this? car insurance. Eagle . How to Test Shock Absorbers on a CarShock absorbers are installed on your car's suspension to dampen shock and stabilize the ride when going over bumps or rough roads. Most cars have a shock absorber for each wheel. Although shock absorbers, or shocks, don't support the weight of the vehicle, they control the oscillation of the suspension over rough surfaces, keeping the tires in full contact with the road at all times. Over time, shock absorbers wear out and need replacement. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Road test your car on a familiar road and note any differences in the usual ride and handling. Listen for squeaks in the suspension that may indicate worn shock absorber bushings. Note that any of the following symptoms may point to worn shock absorbers: bounciness in the ride, tires squealing around corners or hydroplaning on wet roads. 2 Park the car on a level surface. Push down on the bumper or fender on one corner of the car. Stand back and allow the body to rise back up. If the body bounces more than once, the shock absorber on that corner of the car may be worn. Repeat this procedure for the other three corners of the car to check the other shocks. 3 Crawl under the vehicle and visually inspect the shock absorbers for leaking oil. Check the shock mounting brackets and bolts to ensure that they are not loose or broken. Check for excessive corrosion or deformation in the shock body, which would warrant replacement of the shocks. 4 Check the tread on the tires for patchy wear or worn spots, which would indicate the wheel is not staying in complete contact with the road over bumps because of worn shocks. 5 Have the shock absorbers tested by your auto mechanic using a dynamometric test machine. Have the shocks replaced if they fail the test. Tips & Warnings If you need to raise the vehicle to gain access to the undercarriage, insert jack stands under each corner of the vehicle. Do not work under a vehicle that is supported only by a jack. Never replace just a single shock absorber. This could cause adverse handling of the vehicle. Shock absorbers should be replaced as a complete set or in pairs over the front or rear axles of the car.
Eagle . How to Select Shock Absorbers for a TruckShock absorbers are an important part of every vehicles' suspension. Trucks, in particular, are not known for their smooth ride, and selecting the right shock can drastically change your vehicle's handling. Shock absorbers attach from the axle to the frame of the truck and contract with the bumps and contour of the road. Prices on shocks can range from under $100 for the lower-end shocks, to over $1000 a piece for high-end racing shocks. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Know how you intend to use the truck. The type of driving the vehicle is intended to do will affect the type of shocks you buy. A daily driven street truck doesn't need high performance off-road shocks, and a Baja truck will not survive with regular street shocks. 2 Choose between gas and oil shocks. Gas shocks tend to provide a more stable ride over terrain that is rough for long periods of time. The gas chamber compresses and refills, without disturbing the integrity of the gas inside, but oil shocks tend to bubble or create oil pockets when they are under continuous stress. The oil pockets translate into the shock absorber not being able to absorb the bumps effectively. 3 Consider the quality of the ride that you would like your truck to have. The higher quality shock absorbers generally offer greater handling and control than lower quality shocks. The more absorption the shock is capable of acquiring, the softer the ride will be. Stiff shocks offer less absorption, and often allow the vehicle to feel most of the vibrations. 4 Consider if the vehicle is modified. If your truck has a suspension lift, larger tires or other modifications that affect the driving height of the truck, then longer aftermarket shocks are in order. Remember, factory components are meant to work properly with other factory components; this means the stock suspension is not build for larger tires and factory shocks are not meant to be used with suspension lifts. 5 Upgrade your suspension to allow for multiple shocks. Aftermarket suspension manufacturers for trucks fabricate multiple shock brackets for both front and rear applications. Heavier trucks, such as diesels, often require multiple shocks to make the ride smoother. 6 Consider the possible brands that you can buy. Most manufacturers produce several types of shocks that fall into various price ranges, while other companies specialize in only high-end products. Fox Racing designs shocks for all applications and carries O.E. shocks starting around $100 each all the way to racing shocks called the Fox 4.4 that retail for almost $2000 each. Other shock manufacturers, such as Rough Country, Bilstein, Monroe and Rancho cater more to the average consumer rather than the high-end racing shock market. *multi- accessory drive belt. .Chapter 3: Preventive Maintenance: A Monthly Under-the-Hood Check Cfl If only one belt appears to be driving all the accessories in your car, see the section called "Check the Serpentine Multi-Accessory Drive Belt," which follows this one. Check the Serpentine Mutti-Accessory Jbriife Belt In most modern vehicles, a single, long, flat drive belt (shown in Figure 3-3) drives all the engine accessories. This belt winds its way around every accessory pulley, and on the way winds tightly around a "tensioner" pulley that keeps the belt to the correct tension. In cases where it is possible to adjust the tensioner, you usually find something that indicates the correct belt tension. It isn't easy to figure out whether a belt is at the right tension just by looking at it, but if the belt is loose, you will hear squeaky noises when you accelerate sharply. (With the hood up and the emergency brake on, have a friend accelerate the engine while you listen. Be sure to keep your hair and clothing away from the belt.) If the belt squeaks, have a professional replace both the belt and the tensioner because, in many cases, radiators and air conditioning condensers may have to be removed to allow access to the belt. The battery also passes electricity along to the parts of your vehicle that need electricity to function. (For more information about the ignition system in general and the battery in particular, see Chapters 5 and 12.) A battery, like other parts of your car, is subject to wear and tear and should be checked regularly. In particular, you want to pay attention to the battery's trouble spots, shown in Figure 3-4.
